Art Blogging

It is never going to be a main-stream activity. A few medium-size names might appear here and there, but art blogging simply doesn't go well with creation. It's a question of time. Of focus. What interests you? Is it art? Or your art? If it is the latter, whyever would you wander away to dangerously other grounds?
Blogging is for the wandering ones. For those who instinctively lean towards the activity the French call flaner: walk around, float, wander, disperse. It is about letting go of your inner discipline, about substituting something for everything, for the unexpected discoveries and rare echoes, for the misty strength of total, absolute, concrete virtuality.
Why am I doing this? To educate myself, to form myself, to see the world, to share it. But why am I doing this? Where from? Out of what, what need, what rush, what drive? Some strange urge to run away, to hide away so that one becomes visible, to keep the artistic discovery for myself- to share it in a hidden (illicit?) way. Obviously, way too obviously, not to be alone. To find ground somewhere else, to know what sort of (artistic?) world I'm living in. Not to be afraid of what happens. To participate in it. Or: to feel myself participate in it. Take a shortcut. Maybe. Take the long way. Possibly. Write, express, yes, whatever. But beyond the obvious. To draw out my world. To myself, to the present posterity (those who will have known me). Why is it better here than elsewhere? Recognition. To re-cognize - to think again, to find out once more. To confirm the presence through thinking. And, since art is a myth, the confirmation seems welcome. And unfair: didn't I want the myth instead of its confirmation?

Vvoi,
you are one of the finest artists out there, your Blog is special like a spoon of Caviar or a very good old Congnac. I think it's the best artblog I know so far ! So why worry ? This is your media, and this is the Art. This is the real art, to touch people, like Rembrandt does with a small Drawing, or, there is a fine post on a close feeling here:
http://www.art-for-a-change.com/blog/2005/07/downward-spiral.html
So artists are always doubting, wether to do this or that, but just going on to paint every day for Ebay, is just not, what I would expect from a true artist, but more the doubts, the depressions and sometimes an enlightment. Could you imagine a Rembrandt painting each day like a robot ? Then improving the sale for some bucks more ? The Communists raised such kind artists, and often failed the quality, because skills and a conception and discipline is not everything. I think, the real artists never lived of the market, thats quite easy if meeting the right gallerists, beeing right time, right place and so on. Real art is not the sale, but if somebody tired in a Motel, tired of everything, finds a old black-white book of Michelangelo, or some Rothko, gets touched and becomes an artist...
Art is at it's real point a feeling, like that you sit next to a woman, and feel that you are for each other made, there is no logic, no guarantee, but you know- this could be a chance and a change for everything, the right moove, if this moove could happen.
This is very rare, as art is very rare. A good sale on an Auction is not nessecarily also good art. Almost never its VERY good art in Contemporary art,-just maybe QUITE good art, as the New Leipzig Guys, I am sure. Where is the touch ? Forgotten ? And there is a difference between a European and the American approach towards art too. Do not get disturbed by the (good) overweight of our American art collegues.
When Rembrandt died, nobody wanted to buy his paintings, why should that have changed today ?
So I see a difference between QUITE good art and REAL art.

Oh Vvoi, how often artists had it about that, I am afraid, I was very boring.

I'll post this above too, in case you don't catch it...sorry to enter this thread late. I agree with a lot of the points you make or questions that can be raised involving blogging in general. My personal take even with the short time of reading your thoughts is that you should continue writing in the blog arena, but also be putting together a text - essay or book - that really looks at aesthetics/art/contemporary issues. Your writing is rarely pedantic but challenging, and there seems to be a shortage of new voices emerging in the aesthetic/philosophical area. We could use a let up on people like Danto's part and see people like VVOI step in! I'll try to join you. Writing is just as much an important component of an artist's practice as is the production itself. Maybe that is too "Newman" "Smithson" "Kosuth" "Gaines" "Green" - esque, but I believe it like I believe the sun will rise tomorrow, regardless of what Hume says. Go get them! In the words of Nietzsche: "More creation, more energy, more illusion, more will!"
