May I link to it on mine?Jon Nicholshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05016538397199264535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11074051.post-5037901976497364192010-04-20T12:22:26.237+01:002010-04-20T12:22:26.237+01:00I wasn't able to see the show either, which wa...I wasn't able to see the show either, which was quite disappointing, but I wrote a blog on it anyways ....

http://b-uncut.com/blog/2010/03/04/tino-seghal-at-the-guggenheim/

I do think that performance art is still under the radar. That is clear based on so many of the shocked reviews from Seghal's show. But perhaps its not just that performance art is still such a questionable medium, but more that this particular performance, as seen in a typically traditional institution, was lacking in the qualities of performance that make it a type of art. Though I don't really know what those are! It's much harder to define whats performance and what is dance, or performance vs. acting, as it is to look at a painting and recognise aesthetics/talent/etc.

I think there ARE a lot of performance artists, but its still just a difficult concept to grasp...Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06790415364955828706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11074051.post-52753523277109299232010-03-22T08:04:51.203+00:002010-03-22T08:04:51.203+00:00Hey! And for the insightful review (http://theoriederkunst.blogspot.com/2010/02/tino-sehgal.html)
One of the reviews I link to mentions that our art memories are quite short. No wonder - presential art (I mean art where something happens, so experiential, performative, relational, call it as you wish) is so much more difficult to transmit. I am by no means a fetishist of the aura, quite to the contrary, but the very fact that what we get is second-hand stories makes it much more prone to repetition, and all sorts of eternal returns (methinks).
I would say the problem with "this type of art" is to an extent its fragility - its liveness makes it prone to all sorts of undermining contexts. Like yours or mine...vvoihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13588354953361323938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11074051.post-78830711150276156942010-03-04T13:07:03.491+00:002010-03-04T13:07:03.491+00:00@Robert: I think you`re right about artists.@Robert: I think you`re right about artists.potentahttp://www.trage-tare.ronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11074051.post-46636926791837400572010-02-27T05:48:51.425+00:002010-02-27T05:48:51.425+00:00I admit the show is rather refreshing despite its ...I admit the show is rather refreshing despite its weaknesses. But it's funny how after a significant history of performance art people call Sehgal's shows shockingly innovative. Perhaps we don't have enough artists producing this type of art?Roberthttp://theoriederkunst.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
